A few portraits of retired lineman’s tools, given to me by a friend who spends his days on high lines. I hold fascination, curiosity, and reverence for tools and their operators. Especially those in early systems that provide the infrastructure and origins for the daily resources we often take for granted.
It is in vogue to pay attention to food sources, and textile sources, and information sources, and we should be. Even more fundamental, is what provides the tools of all of those trades, and mine. There is always something to be learned by following the stream to the headwaters. Everything takes more work than I imagine. Nothing is guaranteed. It is design, labor, and fabrication that only makes it seem so.
