My pal Jesse Elliott and his band These United States came rolling through town and paid us a visit. His writing is a cornucopia of american notions, fables, and places. He and his trusty band of musicians make music that sounds like loose-leaf pages of poetry, history, and geography books all blowing away out of their dog-eared covers, through the window, and across the street together in summer thunderstorm. Every since I heard about his band on NPR several years ago, I was a fan, and have since had the good fortune to have our paths cross often.
For a few days this week, we had our own house band and a talented photographer, Lindsay McWilliams was included. These United States are often played in our house on the stereo, and this week, we had them live in our living room for a few days, rehearsing new songs and playing a show in town Wednesday evening.
Their new album comes out June 12th, 2012. Godspeed Mr. Elliott & company. We’ll see you next time you’re all in town. We’ll leave the gate open, and can’t wait to hear the finished songs.
