I traded some cash and an Albert Watson book for this axe head at our recent garage sale. Keen Kutter steel was sold in St. Louis Mo. starting in the 1860’s by the Simmons Hardware Company. This single bit had a deep vinegar bath and was hung on a thick hickory haft with a blunt knob, with ebony wood stain and linseed. It was bench filed and stone ground, in hopes of continuing to live up to it’s namesake.
