We celebrated my dear friend Jonathan Prato’s Birthday this week. This is a photo of me taken by my colleague & fellow night drifter, Adam Bove. Personally, I have a low tolerance for self-portrature or of using the internet to propagate images of myself. Ironically, (or maybe not) I think anybody’s own personal notions of what I or anybody else looks like according to their words, thoughts, and behavior is far more interesting and diverse than most single images can communicate.
I guess that is in part why I place such high value on the portrait; it takes a lot to capture the essence of someone in a single image. That notion vexes me and also drives me in much of what I do with a camera.
However, this photo seems to sum up several things. Least of which, the approximate length of the shorts I have been wearing this summer. Nice shot Bové. Keep the good times coming cause they never stay long.
